Company Description
Anglesey Abbey, a National Trust venue in Cambridge, is the ideal venue for parties, corporate events, product launches, conferences, meetings, weddings and wedding receptions.
This picturesque Augustinian priory was built in 1236 by the papal chaplain, Master Lawrence of St Nicholas, who sold 600 sheep to pay for its construction works! Dissolved in 1536 by Henry VIII, it passed through several private hands including Thomas Hobson, and later, Sir George Downing.
It was not until 1926 that the Abbey was adapted into a home by Lord Fairhaven and his brother who wanted a place for entertaining their guests. Today the old house contains Lord Fairhaven’s eclectic mix of many rare and fabulous objects including ‘The opening of Waterloo Bridge’ by John Constable.
The contrast between the lavishly decorated interiors and the shell of a former austere priory gives Anglesey Abbey a truly unique atmosphere. The old monastic buildings were converted to domestic use at the beginning of the 17th century and the monks’ original common room, with its marvellous vaulted ceiling, is a surviving feature of the old priory.
With the recent completion of the Redwood Restaurant and the Robinson Room, the Abbey offers a fine blend of modern and historic, making it a great venue for corporate events.
The Redwood Restaurant is a light, airy space perfect for entertaining guests, with a stunning backdrop of Anglesey’s award-winning grounds. This versatile space is perfect for anything from a conference, private dinner or a networking event.
A recent addition to Anglesey Abbey, the Robinson Room has floor to ceiling windows and views overlooking the garden. This is an intimate room for a VIP dinner or a smaller meeting.
For a larger event The East Lawn will accommodate a marquee with plenty of room to spare for either a formal dinner or a company family fun day. With more gardens than you’ll know what to do with Anglesey Abbey will keep everyone entertained.
